A quick drive to Stafford Springs main street, as well as a reasonable commute to Uconn campus, Willimantic, Bigalow Hollow, The Nipmuck Trail, and numerous antiqueing towns, and the Brimfield Flea Market made it easy for us to get everything on our checklist done. Location-wise, the house is located in a country setting on a road with other well-kept historic homes. She also had a slew of suggestions for where we could go running, as well as places to go out for dinner, or vintage shopping. Danele was very communicative before we arrived with questions about what we might like to eat for breakfast (which was amazing by the way, local sausage and mouth watering baked eggs!!). Also worth adding, both the bedroom and the bathroom had great lighting, if you're picky about lighting, you'll know what I mean. The bathroom was cozy but spacious, and very clean. Our room felt very private and quiet, and wifi worked great. The large interestingly shaped pane window looked out onto the front lawn and a pretty tree just in time for fall foliage. We stayed in the Lafayette Room, a spacious bedroom with two comfortable beds. Our stay at The Inn Keeper's Place was perfect for what we were looking for. When I think about The House of the Devil, another Ti West film, I remember being pulled in by the strong atmosphere, strong acting performances and some shocking moments such as the removal of Greta Gerwig's character. I give this place an overall 5 star rating on all regards. Although, I didn't stay for breakfast it looked amazing but the Italian roast coffee for the road was perfect. As a side note my choice for accommodations seemed to be a hit with other guests at the party which came in from all over and as far away as Texas. My concerns over location were gladly unfounded actually a beautiful country setting yet conveniently located very close to I-84 if you are coming/going from the Boston area as I was. Who does that? Then when thinking out loud expressed my frustration at forgetting to get a bottle of wine to bring - they solved that problem to and although, not their usual policy they didn't charge me for it - just an example of how gracious and accommodating they are. That problem was quickly solved as they offered to get me to the party and safely back. I was left to scramble to find a place as our usual closer place had closed down and as such was concerned about transportation to and from the event. Danelle and her husband Chris are fantastic hosts. I The room was very charming, cozy, quaint and very clean.
Having said that I really felt compelled to take the time and review this place so, let's get to it. Disclaimer: I am 60 years old very busy with work and family so not a lot of time to write reviews but I sure do read a lot of reviews as my wife and I have a fairly impressive travel resume. Obviously, I don’t want to give it away and spoil the movie.ħ/10 I was going to give it 6 but then had a light bulb moment about the ending.I stayed here to attend an event in nearby Somers CT 21 minutes away by map quest. You need to think it through but it was different, non obvious and I liked that. Although, I like the fact it didn’t put things on a plate for you. It felt disjointed and I didn’t feel the story was strong enough to carry it for me. I needed more of a grab sooner into the movie. My son fell asleep half way through but woke up and said it was good but wanted more backstory.
It was a slow burning movie and the action didn’t pick up until the end. Claire starts to discover evidence while working a night shift alone. The hotel owners didn’t want a bad reputation so hid the body. The hotel is supposed to be haunted by Madeline O’Malley, a bride jilted at the altar and who killed herself in the hotel in the 1800s. Luke maintains a website documenting the haunted hotel and is trying to find evidence of ghosts in the last few days, Claire seems more dedicated to this than him. There are three guests, a stressed mum with her son, a washed up actress and later an elderly old man who wants to stay a final time in a particular room. Claire and Luke are employees there, seeing it through to the end. We went for ghost scares this time with The Innkeepers.
